The Atlantic Beach Classic presented by Access Golf is a unique stop on the Epson Tour schedule in many ways. The event’s venue, Atlantic Beach Country Club, is one of the toughest courses athletes will play throughout the season, fully testing their game and preparing them for possible graduation to the LPGA Tour at the end of the year.

The tournament team and club membership also go above and beyond to host an incredible week, putting on multiple off-course events and activities in which the athletes can participate. One club member, LPGA Tour veteran Mel Reid, has been involved in both editions of the tournament and has made a huge impact on the Atlantic Beach Classic early in its tenure.

The 2024 edition saw Reid hand the trophy off to then-Epson Tour rookie Briana Chacon. In 2025, the Englishwoman spent more time with multiple Epson Tour athletes, sitting in on an athlete development panel called “Beyond the Greens.” Reid spoke from experience, giving the future stars of the LPGA advice on hiring caddies, obtaining sponsorship and more. After the panel, she even stuck around to answer personal questions as well, really impacting each and every athlete in attendance.

“I think it’s important, especially when it’s in my backyard,” said Reid. “It’s something that Jody (Brothers) came to me last year, and I was more than happy, with open arms, to do anything that I can to help the future generation. I’ve always wanted to give back in so many different ways, and I find it very easy because it’s so easy to give back to the Epson Tour. They’re just a fantastic group of young women and a fantastic team to work with.”

Reid, who is an advocate for helping younger athletes find their footing as professionals, explained why giving back is a priority for her, and it all stems from her experiences in her early years on the LPGA Tour.

“I loved it when I was coming out on Tour,” said Reid. “I loved listening to – I’m going to call myself an older player, but more of an experienced player. You listen because they’ve been through it. They’ve been there, they’ve done that, they get it. They get the emotions of everything, and it’s really difficult, so I really enjoy doing things like this.”

With the Atlantic Beach Classic presented by Access Golf now wrapped up, athletes will have time to reflect on Reid’s words and implement the advice into their careers as the 2025 season progresses.

Who knows? One of those athletes may be the next to walk in Reid’s footsteps in the future on the LPGA Tour.
